Battle Top Warriors,
and those of you with ballerina tops that look pretty and hide.
It’s that time again BATTLE TOPS! Our second annual event will be held on April 13th. 6:00pm at Dave Sousas shop. 76 Jackson Rd, Gilbertsville PA 19525.
Parking will be in the fenced in gravel lot for the ball field adjacent to Daves house or across the street in the lane entrance for Zerns Farmers Market.
This will again be a battling top event and a longest spin event. You can participate in either or both events. They can be different tops. Spin tops have the same weight requirements and need to fit in the starting blocks but do not have shape requirements.
Data entry, fine-tuning and specification check in, will start immediately with the event hopefully starting 7:00 – 7:30pm. (I need volunteers for the weigh in process and match judges, please contact me). This is an open invitational event and other club members are encouraged to participate. Making a top is as easy as turning a wheel and truing up the shaft. The event last year was a lot of fun and I encourage everyone to get involved.
In order to have a little more bumping between the tops, there is one change to the old requirements. 1) The outside contact edge is required to have some texture or irregularities. In the turning process if you were to squeeze the TOP in the chuck, the dents it leaves are just about right. There is also an addition requirement. The top should be new each year. This years tops will be confiscated at the end of the event and will be returned at next years event.
We will have prizes for the top three positions, and the winner of the longest spin contest, and of course, the glorious trophy will be back up for grabs!
We’re going to split the cost of a pizza run anyone interested in eating needs to bring money $5.00 - $10.00 (bring some singles) If you don’t do pizza we can also order salads or sandwiches individually There will be soda and water for sale at the event.
Please contact me directly with your full name and club name via email if you plan to attend. This will speed up the data entry for the computer process.
Thank You,
Rob Shafer
